New Church Development
The Florida Annual Conference leads the denomination in new church starts. Since 2000, we have successfully planted 69 new congregations. The Conference Committee on New Church Development facilitates the establishment of new faith communities, identifies and trains potential pastors for this area of ministry and coordinates Conference resources to support this area of ministry. Building on the success of existing models for new church starts, the Conference seeks funds to implement two pioneering models that will address special needs and reach specific populations in the Conference.
The urban model will plant new congregations in heavily populated metropolitan areas that are currently not being served by healthy congregations. This model calls for a starting pastor to settle in one location, planting a new congregation every two to three years from the same residence.
The regional model will plant a single large church to serve a broad geographical region. The use of three pastors instead of one will shorten the conception and birth stages of the new congregation.
