Transformational Moments

Sacred Ground

In his opening remarks at the dedication of the Warren W. Willis Camp The Rev. Dr. Ira Barnett, for whom Barnett Lodge is named, called the facility "sacred ground." How prophetic he was.

In the six decades since it opened, it has been the place where tens of thousands of young people have come to draw near to God. This summer, as the camping season was winding down, we asked several members of the leadership team, "What makes this place so special?" They all said the same thing. This is "hallowed ground;" or this is "sacred ground." Few places generate as much reverence.

Quite a few members of the leadership team started out as campers and came back year after year. Moreover, many of them plan to pursue careers in full-time Christian service. To say that Warren W. Willis Camp impacts lives is an understatement. It transforms them. Over the past sixty years, there have been many "transformational moments." Guess what? They are still happening.
